Press Release from Buckinghamshire Counci |
Travel limits on concessionary bus passes, which were lifted when lockdown restrictions started in March, are to be reinstated on Monday (15 June) in line with the latest Government Guidance.
Normally the county’s 72,000 concessionary pass holders can travel in Buckinghamshire on weekdays from 9am to 11.59pm, and all day at weekends. These travel time limits were lifted by Buckinghamshire Council on 23 March to allow older and more vulnerable passengers to take advantage of early opening times at shops and other essential services before 9am. Now, with easing of lockdown rules, increases in peak time passenger numbers are expected to continue, especially when shops reopen and as more people start travelling back to work. David Martin, Buckinghamshire Council Cabinet Member for Logistics, said: “I really do hope the relaxation of travel limits helped our older and more vulnerable residents with their essential shopping, but now we need to do our best to manage passenger numbers at peak times and help the bus companies maintain social distancing on their buses.” Around 12% of concessionary bus trips on Mondays to Fridays during April and early May were made in the extended time period before 9am, an average of 632 trips per week. .
